Disability Equality Training Programme
Course Outline
An introductory Disability Equality training workshop giving an overview and opportunity to discuss issues around disability equality.
Aims
Disability Equality training workshop participants will:
- Learn about the historical context, models of disability, disability equality v disability awareness training, attitudes towards disability, legislation and creating change within the work place
- Consider the extent of their own influence on disability equality issues
- Consider ways of minimising disability discrimination in the workplace using the F.A.I.R Approach
Objectives
As a result of this Disability Equality training participants will:
- Demonstrate an awareness of one’s values and beliefs that have been influenced by personal and historical experiences
- Know what constitutes individual discrimination, group and institutional discrimination within the organisation and society as a whole
- Appreciate the experiences and differences of people with disabilities
- Be able to relate more confidently to people whose abilities and experiences are different to their own
- Be able to recognise discrimination and know how to respond if they see or experience it
Participant Group
All staff should receive this Disability Equality training.
Topics
Disability Equality training workshops can include:
- Understand multiple realities
- How stereotypes and biases can lead to discrimination
- Consideration of common perceptions around disability issues and how they affect day-to-day interactions
- Consideration of inequalities in society
- Overview of disability legislation and how it relates to the workforce
- How to resolve day-to-day issues using the F.A.I.R approach.
